Beach

The beautiful sandy beach of Murvagh is just a five minute walk from Laburnum Lodge Holiday Cottage. A little further away is the beach at Rossnowlagh, just a five minute drive. Both beaches have Blue Flag status and are lifeguarded from June 22-August 30 daily.

Murvagh beach is an extensive sandy beach, and is calm and sheltered. The extensive dune system in this area is a designated Special Area of Conservation. Belalt Strand at Rossnowlagh extends to the north-northwest for over 2km from the cliffs at Coolmore in the south to the intertial rock outcrop at Carrickfad. The beach has a broad low-angle profile with well sorted fine sand as the dominant sediment. Rossnowlagh is a heavily used beach with a long tradation of beach parking and large resident and day-tripper populations. It is one of Irelands main surfing beaches.

Walks

The hills and valleys surrounding Laburnum Lodge Holiday Cottage is ideal terrain for those who are keen on walking. There are way-marked routes that give ample choice of leisurely strolls nearby to the cottage. North of Donegal Town, the Bluestack Mountains are extremely popular with hillwalkers because of the beautiful unspoilt countryside surrounding them, while Slieve League, less than an hour away by car, has Europe's highest sea cliffs.

Golf

Donegal Golf Club is locally known as Murvagh Golf Club, and is set in one of the most scenic parts of Ireland with some of the headlands and islands of West Donegal providing a magnificant backdrop to the 18 hole links course. The 6,800 metre par 73 course can be a demanding test, especially if there is a wind blowing in from the Atlantic. This golf course is literally on your doorstep.

Traditional Music

The nearby Salmon Inn in Mullinasole, Jamesie's Bar in Ballintra and numerous bars and hotels in Donegal Town,  have regular lively sessions of traditional music, and attract some of the most talented players and singers from near and far. If you are celebrating a special occasion during the summer, why not treat yourself to the Summer Cabaret in Harvey's Point Country Hotel, Lough Eske.

Fishing

There is fishing, literally in your backyard. With your own private access and prepared area, the Murvagh river runs behind the Cottage. The river is very well stocked with salmon and trout, and will keep the keen angler fully occupied. Details can be obtained from any fisheries board web page.
